The Porsche 911 RSR Daytona was the racing version of the mythic Carrera RS 2.7. The competitive version benefitted from an increased engine capacity, an improved compression rate and ventilated brakes. This brought the car up by 100 horsepower, bringing its total to 308, and letting it reach 280 km/h. When it first appeared on the starting grid of the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1973, the Porsche imposed itself on the world in the hands of Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood, becoming the new car to beat.
